The bible tells us in Luke 6:44 that a tree is known by the fruit it bears, which actually does make sense. When you see a tree with oranges on it you know it's an orange tree. When you see a tree with apples, you know that you are looking at an apple tree. Jesus said it's the same with people, we can learn a lot about them by examining their fruit. When we look at others, we should ask God to help us discern the fruit others produce. At the same token others are evaluating us by the fruit that we produce. What kind of fruit should we be producing? In Galatians 5:22 it tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. That means that our lives should reflect those attributes. When we submit our lives to God and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, then He will produce His fruit in us. There is no good tree that produces bad fruit, we bear good fruit because good is in us. Through everything that we do and say, our lives should reflect that of Christ. We are a witness for the Gospel as we allow our light to shine so the world can see our good fruit and God can get the glory out of our lives.
