Jesus asked Peter, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter's response to Jesus was, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." If someone were to ask you that same question, what would your response be? So many of us do not know our true identity. We still believe the lies that someone spoke about us way back when. We walk around with insecurities, doubt, and fear because of what someone said. We remember that classmate that called us ugly or that teacher that said we were too heavy to join Gymnastics or even that boy that sat behind us in class and always pulled our hair and picked on us. All through life as we are growing up, we experienced rejection and hurt. Now we're adults and we are moving through life still carrying the weight and the pain of those individuals who hurt us. We think we're fine, we get dressed up and we look good and we try to maintain an average weight. We have friends, we laugh, we get together and we socialize. The truth is we are fooling ourselves all day long. Who we see in the mirror is not who we really are. We wear a mask to protect who we think we are. We don't want anyone to meet this person who we have become. I am here to tell you today, go ahead and take the mask off. Meet the real you. That person you see in the mirror is not you, it's only what you have come to believe about you. When you take the mask off, look in the mirror and come face to face with the real you, you would soon discover that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). You will see that behind that mask is a beautiful woman. The one you fail to be in touch with. You hide your true self behind a mask because of the lies that was told to you in the pass. Due to the rejection and pain you experienced in your life, you chose to believe what was not true about you. You allowed the lies you heard to define you. However God says different. He sees you and He knows exactly who you are. He formed you and protected you while you were still in your mother's womb. He loves you and He dispatched you here with purpose. You have a lot to offer someone. Somebody is waiting on you because they are in need of what you have to offer, so be free today. Take the mask off. Be in touch with who you really are. Know your true identity. You will find great peace and life would be so much more rewarding.
