Every Christian will experience the conflict between the natural and the spiritual man. We can only know true victory when the flesh is subject to the spirit. Romans 6:13 states, And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. In other words, do not subject your body to evil by committing sin, instead commit yourselves completely to God because in Him we have received new life. We are spiritual beings living in a natural body, however when we accepted Christ as our Savior and the Holy Spirit came on board and dwelt in us, that lower nature died. Galatians 5:16 puts it plainly, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. That tells me that when we walk in the Spirit daily we are then able to crucify our flesh with all it's lust and passions and allow our inner man, which is the Spirit man to come to the forefront and be in control. The conflict begins when we as Christians start to experience the struggle between the flesh and the Spirit. The flesh being our natural self and the Spirit, the Holy Spirit that abides in us. The battle between the two rages on and on, it's an ongoing war. No truce, no negotiations or any settlement is possible in this war. There is no room for compromise. Our enemy, which is our flesh struggles to pull us in the opposite direction to cause us to go against the things of God. To keep us from fulfilling His plans and purposes in our lives. The flesh produces evil actions and attitudes according to Galatians 5:19-21. How do we fight this great spiritual battle? II Corinthians 10:4 tells us that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but Mighty in God. We have to pull down every strong hold and war against the spirit of darkness. God has already equipped us to win every conflict. We put on the whole armour of God and we fight against the enemy of our soul. When we are born again, there is a more powerful principle working in us. The Holy Spirit that leads, guides, and lifts us from the corrupt ways of our past, causes us to be spiritually productive. It is only through God's strength that we can overcome this flesh. Prayer is our mighty force that can put this flesh under subjection and crucify it and drive off the forces of evil. If we have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and filled with His mighty Spirit, we can win this war and we can be victorious.
