TEACH ME TO WAIT

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint...

Isaiah 40:31

Waiting is not something we like to do. If we have to wait in line for more than ten minutes we become impatient. I find that when people are waiting, they are either looking at their watch, pacing back and forth or appear jittery. My guess is because they are in a hurry to go do the next thing. What about when we are waiting on God? Does that change things? Are we more patient? Not at all. When we are waiting on God, I believe our impatient nature is turned up times two. Let's look at the definition of the word wait. Wait is define as: to stay where one is; or delay action until a particular time, or until something else happens. In these times we are living in today, we want everything to happen now. Everything has to be quick, hence the name "microwave generation," everything has to happen fast. God sometimes says wait, and while we are waiting He promise to renew our strength. How many times has God told us to wait but we felt like He was taking too long, so we jumped ahead and did our own thing? We felt as though if we waited on God we were going to miss something, as if He doesn't know our tomorrow. When we believe God's word, we learn how to wait on Him. We realize that nothing is going to happen before God's timing. While we are waiting, we don't have to grow impatient because He gives us new strength. They that wait on the Lord, are those who have the assurance that the promises He has made to us, and the things for which we hope for are a reality. God is faithful and true to His word. Now He not only promises to give us new strength, He also promises to mount us up with wings like eagles. Why eagle's wings? Most eagles have long wide wings which helps them to soar and glide with not much effort. By their wings being broad, it can hold them up in the air longer than if they had narrow wings. The broadness of their wings provide an extra lift for when they have to carry their prey. There is also strength in their wings. As the Lord renews our strength and mount us up with wings like the eagle's, we have the capacity to wait. He provides supernatural strength that gives us confidence knowing that what we are waiting for is on it's way. We don't faint and we don't grow weary while waiting because we are trusting in God. When we don't wait on God, that's when anxiety builds, we grow tired of waiting and we end up taking matters into our own hands and mess things up. As we wait on God, we wait with expectation based on knowledge and trust knowing that the the answer or what we are hoping for is just a matter of time. Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait I say on the Lord. (Psalms 27:14).

SCRIPTURE

Isaiah 40:31 AMPC
